Hello, these initial days at Delft University of Technology have been promising and exciting. It’s impossible not to draw a comparison with the similar experience I had 10 years ago in California; the cultural impact there was profound, literally a different world. Now, in Europe, despite the initial -2-degree chill, the warmth of my new colleagues is palpable. I have changed too, of course—10 years ago, I didn’t know what I was getting into, but now I am well-versed in my research topic and clear about my goals.
At TU Delft, I have been assigned my office within the Software Engineering Research Group (SERG). There are free drinks at the vending machines, with only oat milk available, and the cafeteria meals are mostly plant-based. The Netherlands is actively addressing the protein transition, and the university sets a good example.
Together with my local scientific supervisor and their team, I am beginning to understand what my focus will be, co-designing the scientific activities I will be leading throughout 2024. We’re delving into the realm of green AI—lowering the carbon footprint of artificial intelligence while making the process democratic and accessible to businesses, with a special focus on fintech, of course.
I want to express my gratitude to the University of Salento for the growth opportunity it has provided, and to Auriga for supporting my research. I’ll be back soon with more exciting updates!
